If you need help with your Altamonte Springs Divorce
or Altamonte Family Law Case... We Can Help You
Divorce, child custody, child support, and other family law cases are typically filed with the
Court in the county in which the parties live. Therefore, if you are married and you and your
spouse live in Altamonte Springs, because Altamonte Springs is located in Seminole County,
your Altamonte Springs divorce, child custody, modification, or other family law case, would
typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.
Altamonte Springs, Florida
Altamonte Springs was originally a stop on the South Florida Railroad known as Snow
Station. In the late 1800's, a group of wealthy Bostonians provided the Altamonte Land,
Hotel and Navigation Company with the money to buy land in the area that would later be
known as Altamonte Springs.
Shortly thereafter, The Altamonte Hotel was built. The Altamonte was a magnificent winter
resort for wealthy visitors. The Altamonte had 130 rooms, 49 fireplaces, 500 feet of
verandas, and cool pure water that was pumped to the Altamonte from a nearby spring.
Not long after the Altamonte was built, the U.S. Post Office granted the name change to
Altamonte Springs. And, in 1920, Altamonte Springs was incorporated as a town.
Until it burned down in 1953, The Altamonte Hotel catered to its wealthy winter guests.
Firemen from seven communities fought the fire at the Altamonte for 22 hours to no avail.

This same rule regarding where to file a family law case applies regardless of marital status. So,
like in the example above, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you and the other parent
live in Altamonte Springs, your Altamonte child custody, child support, modification, paternity,
or other type of family law case, would typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.

Remember, it is not the city of residence but the county of residence which determines with what
Court a divorce or other type of family law case should be filed. Therefore, if you live in
Altamonte and the other party lives in another city located in Seminole County, your Altamonte
Springs family law case would typically still be filed with the Seminole County Court.
Similarly, if one of the parties lives in Altamonte
Springs and the other party lives in another state,
the Altamonte Springs family law case could be
filed in Seminole County if the jurisdictional
requirements are met. However, in those cases in
which any children related to the family law case
are located in the other state, the authority of the
Seminole County Court may be limited.
Now in those cases where one of the parties lives
in Altamonte Springs and the other party lives in a
city that is not located in Seminole County, the
Altamonte divorce or other type of family law case
could be filed in Seminole County, but would not
necessarily have to be filed in Seminole County.
