This same rule regarding where to file a family law case applies regardless of marital status. So, like in the example above, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you and the other parent live in Longwood, your Longwood child custody, child support, modification, paternity, or other type of family law case, would typically be filed with the Seminole County Court.

Remember, it is not the city of residence but the county of residence which determines with what Court a divorce or other type of family law case should be filed. Therefore, if you live in Longwood and the other party lives in another city located in Seminole County, your Longwood family law case would typically still be filed with the Seminole County Court.
Similarly, if one of the parties lives in Longwood and the other party lives in another state, the Longwood family law case could be filed in Seminole County if the jurisdictional requirements are met. However, in those cases in which any children related to the family law case are located in the other state, the authority of the Seminole County Court may be limited.

Family Law Help?
Longwood, Florida
Longwood was named by, Edward Warren Henck, one of Longwood's early settlers. Henck, who arrived in Florida by steamboat in the 1870's, named Longwood after a suburb in Boston he helped plat. The Boston suburb of Longwood, in turn, was named after the district on the island of Saint Helena where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled.

Henck, who was the first postmaster of the Longwood Post Office, was instrumental in Longwood's development. Henck, who was not one to shy away from opportunity, was also involved with the construction of the railroad that connected Sanford to Orlando.

In 1885, Henck became Longwood's first mayor. A year later, his Longwood Hotel was completed and the town of Longwood continued to grow and flourish. Then, in 1923, Longwood was incorporated as a city.

The Longwood Hotel which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 is also known as the Longwood Village Inn.
